Federal Court in Los Angeles Hosts Law Day 2010 Events
May 26, 2010
The U.S. District Court for the Central District of California hosted its eleventh annual Law Day program for 16 Los Angeles area high schools. More than 800 students and teachers participated in a half-day program, held over four mornings.
Students participated in a mock trial hosted by a judge and heard speakers from various federal agencies. Students participated in the mock trial as the judge, attorneys, witnesses, jurors, and courtroom staff.
Fifteen district and magistrate judges, and 110 other volunteers participated, some of them in more than one session.
The program’s theme was “Law in the 21st Century: Enduring Traditions, Emerging Challenges.” The mock trial involved a case about texting while driving, a script developed by the Administrative Office of the U.S. Courts.
