What's Your EQ?
What’s your ethics quotient? There’s an easy way to find out. The
second annual ethics quiz for federal judges is now available on the
Judiciary’s intranet in the Judges’ Corner.
“The short quiz is designed to test your knowledge—and
increase your understanding—of ethics rules governing recusal
obligations that may arise from financial and other conflicts of
interest,” said Judge Gordon J. Quist, chair of the Judicial Conference
Committee on Codes of Conduct.
Correct answers are accompanied by a brief explanation
and relevant citations, but not, unfortunately, by prizes. Ready to
test?
EQ Question: A
mutual fund you own invests only in the health care industry, and you
are currently handling several cases involving health care companies.
Your recusal is mandatory. True or False? (See answer below.)
EQ Answer: The
correct answer is False. Recusal is not required unless you know that
the outcome of those cases could substantially affect your interest.
