Judicial Nominations Update

Eighty Article III judicial vacancies and 51 nominees for those positions were left pending when Congress adjourned for the August recess on August 2, 2002. Since the107th Congress began in January of 2001, 123 judicial nominations have been sent to the Senate by President George W. Bush for consideration. Seventy-two of those nominees have been confirmed, including 13 to the U.S. courts of appeals and 59 to the U.S. district courts. Eleven of the pending nominees have appeared before the Senate Judiciary Committee for nomination hearings, and six of those eleven have been approved by the committee and are awaiting action by the full Senate.
