Abstract: 

California has the largest prison population of any state, with one in seven of all state prisoners in the U.S. incarcerated there. The authors discuss results of a three-year study of the causes and consequences of parole violations and revocations in California, representing the largest, most comprehensive, and rigorous study of parole violations and revocations conducted.
