The judiciary's IT program has matured considerably since its inception more than 30 years ago, and the Long Range Plan for Information Technology in the Federal Judiciary has likewise evolved.
The plan presents the program in terms of five fundamental areas: external participants, court operations, judges and chambers, probation and pretrial services, and information technology infrastructure, in order to identify needs of the judiciary's various constituents. Future updates to the plan will build on this approach and incorporate additional elements.
This update benefitted from consultation with a number of groups including Judicial Conference Committees and various Administrative Office advisory groups. A draft of this update was made available on the judiciary's network for judiciary-wide comment. This document incorporates the suggestions made through this review process.
Through its Subcommittee on Planning and Budgeting, the Judicial Conference Committee on Information Technology provided overall guidance in the development of this update.
