The Federal Courts of Appeals

Filings in the regional courts of appeals dropped 3 percent to 55,992. Filings of original proceedings increased, and filings of civil appeals remained stable. Reductions occurred, however, in filings of criminal appeals of many types, and filings of appeals of administrative agency decisions decreased in response to a decline in appeals involving the Board of Immigration Appeals, which made fewer decisions, thereby reducing the pool of cases that could be appealed.
