Federal Courts Improve On Jury Service Efficiency

The nation's federal courts did a better job of utilizing those individuals who reported for jury service in the 12-month period that ended June 30, 2008.

The national average of jurors not selected, serving or challenged on the first day of jury service was 37 percent in that time frame, an improvement over the 37.9 percent for the year ended June 30,. 2007.

The decline in the percentage of jurors not utilized in their first day of service means 4,973 potential jurors were not brought into federal courthouses unnecessarily. That decline also equates to a savings of about $402,000.
