Civics Teachers Have Day in Court

More than 400 teachers from across the nation recently participated in a free press-fair trial simulation in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia.

The teachers, in the nation's capital for a conference sponsored by the Center for Civic Education, got to participate as jurors or argue as attorneys before U.S. District Judge Royce C. Lamberth. Those who argued were first coached by attorneys of the Administrative Office of the United States Courts.

The exercise can be used in classrooms, or with judges in local federal courts around the country. Classroom ready materials are posted on this web site, at http://www.uscourts.gov/outreach/topics/carey/index.html.
