The U.S. Postal Service will issue a panel of four stamps depicting four former U.S. Supreme Court members – Justices Joseph Story, Louis Brandeis, Felix Frankfurter, and William Brennan.

The first day of issue of the new stamps will be commemorated at a September 22 event at the U.S. Supreme Court building. The ceremony will feature Chief Justice John Roberts and Postmaster General John Potter.

Justice Story was a member of the nation's highest court for 34 years, with his long tenure ending when he died in 1845.

Justice Brandeis served on the court for 23 years before retiring in 1939.

Justice Frankfurter joined the court in 1939, and served until his retirement in 1962.

Justice Brennan served on the court for nearly 34 years, from 1956 until his retirement in 1990.
