Legal Clinic Helps Self-Represented Litigants

One of the nations largest and busiest federal district courts has opened a Pro Se (Self-Represented) Clinic offering free legal assistance to litigants who are pursuing civil claims without benefit of an attorney.

The U.S. District Court for the Central District of Californias clinic is located at the U.S. Courthouse in Los Angeles. Various services are available, including representation of indigent litigants by unpaid volunteers.

The Central District takes in seven of Southern Californias most populous counties. Indigent and unrepresented litigants currently struggle to pursue their claims in federal court, said Central District Judge Audrey Collins. Their cases can present difficult legal issues. The Pro Se Clinic helps fill the gap in legal services to these citizens.

The clinic will be funded and staffed by an international private law firm and a public interest law firm. It will be staffed by two lawyers and be managed by the public interest law firm.
