The Justice and Journalism series of conferences has reached middle age.Begun in 1999, the program recently held its sixth gathering. In each, printand broadcast journalists, along with educators from journalism and law schools, have conferred with district and appellate federal judges. The program is co-sponsoredby the Judicial Conference's Judicial Branch Committee and the Freedom Forum's First Amendment Center. The goal: to hold regional discussion sessions in each judicial circuit and then to produce a summary report of issues that have been identified and recommendations on improving the flow of information. Among the attendees at a Boston conference were, from left, American Lawyer publications columnist Tony Mauro; Tenth Circuit Chief Judge Deanell Tacha, the Judicial Branch Committee'schair; and Gene Policinski, deputy director of the First Amendment Center.
