AED/CPR Training

Six U.S. Marshals Service (USMS) Judicial security inspectors from six circuits participated in an Automated External Defibrillator/ Cardiac Pulmonary Resuscitation (AED/CPR) train-the-trainer program in Washington, D.C. last month. Instructors from the American Heart Association taught the marshals, who will go back to their courts as certified AED/CPR instructors and provide training to deputy marshals, court security officers, and court personnel. The USMS is working with the American Heart Association to train and certify two deputy marshals in each district.

An AED unit is a small, semi-automatic, voice-prompted device that delivers an electric shock to a victim experiencing cardiac arrest. The Judicial Conference endorsed a Judiciary-wide AED program in 1999, and has since placed approximately 600 AED units in federal court facilities nationwide.
