Representative Rogers' Support of Judiciary Reconigned

The efforts of Representative Harold Rogers (R-KY) on behalf of the justice system were recognized by the Judicial Conference at a reception in his honor at the Supreme Court this month. Rogers, who has been a member of Congress since 1981, chaired the House Appropriations Subcommittee on the Departments of Commerce, Justice, State, the Judiciary, and Related Agencies from 1995 through 2000. He was presented with a resolution passed by the Conference Executive Committee that read, in part:

Representative Rogers' support and admiration for the work of the Judiciary began early in his career, when he served as Commonwealth Attorney for the counties of Pulaski and Rockcastle in eastern Kentucky. Thereafter, during his
system of justice have contributed to the violent crime rate being at its lowest level since the Department of Justice began tracking the statistics in 1973, and rates for all other crimes have also declined.

Representative Rogers has recognized the critical value of an independent federal Judiciary in our system of government. He ensured that the federal courts were continuously provided with the resources necessary to keep pace with burgeoning caseloads and expanding jurisdiction. He also vigorously supported improvements in the administration of justice through the courts' use of automation and through his endorsement of numerous other initiatives that have made the federal courts more efficient, thereby providing improved service to the public.
