| | Vol. 35, Number 11November 2003 Bankruptcy Judge Houston Honored
The National Conference of Bankruptcy Judges (NCBJ) has awarded Bankruptcy Judge David W. Houston, III (N. D. Miss.) the Herbert M. Bierce Distinguished Judicial Service Award. This is only the fifth time in the last 23 years the award has been given. Houston has been a bankruptcy judge in the Northern District of Mississippi since 1983. A Fellow of the American College of Bankruptcy, he has served on the board of the NCBJ and, from 1993-1994, as its president. He has been a member of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit Bankruptcy Committee. Houston is a member of the Judicial Conference Budget Committee, and has previously served on the Committee on the Administrative Office.
The Herbert M. Bierce Award recognizes exceptional individual service “in furtherance of the collective commitment of the [NCBJ] to improvements in the quality of justice in the Courts of Bankruptcy of the United States.” The award was established to honor the long and distinguished service of Judge Bierce, who served on the bankruptcy court of the District of Minnesota.
