Deputy Director Named
at Federal Judicial Center
John Cooke has been named
the new Deputy Director of
the Federal Judicial Center,
succeeding Russ Wheeler, who left
the FJC in September 2005. The
FJC Board unanimously approved
the appointment.
Cooke has worked at the
Federal Judicial Center since
September 1998, when he was
appointed as Director of the Judicial
Education Division. In 2004,
he became the Director of the
Education Division when the Judicial
Education and Court Education
Divisions were merged.
Before coming to the Center,
Cooke was an attorney and judge
in the Army, where he served for
26 years in a variety of assignments.
His last position was Chief
Judge of the Army Court of Criminal
Appeals and Commander
of the U.S. Army Legal Services
Agency. He retired from the Army
in 1998 with the rank of Brigadier
General.
