Alternatives to Pretrial Detention: Southern District of Iowa

Awareness of increasing detention rates led U.S. Pretrial Services in the Southern District of Iowa to commence a project to increase use of alternatives to detention when appropriate. Through use of a series of strategies, the district substantially increased use of alternatives to detention, resulting in an increased pretrial release rate without compromising appearance in court or safety of the community.
