Determining Racial Equity in Pretrial Risk Assessment

Volume 86 Number 3
Date:
December 2022
Abstract:

In this article the authors study factors relating to race and pretrial risk instrument categorization and predictivity. They find that while Black defendants tend to have higher scores than White defendants, race did not predict false positive rates.  In addition, while race and false negative rates were related to a significant degree, this relationship did not differ by race.
