Position Description

The United States District Court for the Western District of Texas is currently accepting applications for the position of Official Court Reporter. The position is in Midland, Texas; however, monthly travel to Pecos and/or Alpine may be required.

Applicants must possess at least four years prime court reporting experience in other courts, the freelance field, or a combination thereof. Real time certification is highly preferred but not a requirement; however, applicant must be experienced in real time court reporting. Applicants must be qualified for listing on the registry of the National Court Reporters Association or have passed an equivalent qualifying examination.

Additionally, applicants must own or be willing to purchase, upon entry on duty, real time court reporting equipment. Applicant must be able to adhere to / comply with stringent Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals deadline requirements to file transcripts on appeal. Successful candidate must be willing to substitute for other staff court reporters as needed. 

Overnight travel may be occasionally required as the Court is designated to preside in other locations throughout the Western District of Texas. Travel expenses are covered pursuant to Administrative Office of the US Courts guidelines.
