Federal Pretrial Release and the Detention Reduction Outreach Program (DROP)

Abstract: 

In 2015 the Probation and Pretrial Services Office of the Administrative Office of the U.S. Courts developed the Detention Reduction Outreach Program (DROP) in response to rising national federal detention rates. The author describes DROP, a two-day series of meetings, trainings, and discussion with probation and pretrial services staff and district stakeholders, including the U.S. Attorney's Office, federal defenders, and federal judges. The author also compares release data post-DROP visits and describes future plans.
