Position Description

Duties: The staff interpreter (Spanish/English) primarily interprets for the Court at all proceedings from arraignments, through motions, trials, and sentences; translates written documents to and from the Court that may be introduced into evidence, or transmitted to other parties; provides telephone and over-the-counter assistance to Non-English speakers. When not interpreting, the incumbent may be asked to perform other duties; however, any additional assignments will not detract from the interpreter’s ability to concentrate fully on interpretation tasks and responsibilities. Travel may be required to other divisional offices or for other court related purposes.

Minimum Qualifications: Certification from the Administrative Office of the United States Courts is a mandatory qualification requirement for the position, plus four years of court interpreting experience. The candidate must also have excellent interpersonal skills to deal successfully and professionally with court personnel, the Bar, and the general public, both in and out of the courtroom. Availability for overtime and overnight travel is required.

Additional Salary Information: If currently an on-staff Interpreter with the Federal Courts, Grade/Step will be matched. Position carries full Federal benefits package.
