Overview of the Position | U.S. District Judge Kirk E. Sherriff is seeking candidates for a full-time term law clerk position in his Fresno chambers. The incumbent will conduct extensive research and writing on a wide range of issues that arise in federal litigation and will assist Judge Sherriff during trials and with managing his caseload. Applicants must be available for a start date of employment in late August 2026. The term will last until August 2027, with the possibility of extension. The incumbent will be expected to perform work in the Fresno courthouse on a regular and recurring basis with limited availability of telework subject to Judge Sherriff’s approval. Applications will be considered on a rolling basis until the position is filled. Consistent with the Federal Law Clerk Hiring Plan, Judge Sherriff will not consider the applications of rising 3Ls before 12 p.m. EDT on June 9, 2025. For consideration, candidates must be law school graduates or scheduled to graduate law school prior to the start date of the clerkship, with excellent academic records (class standing of top 20% preferred) and excellent research and writing skills. Law Review, journal, moot court, and/or federal judicial extern experience is preferred. Post-graduate work and/or clerkship experience is also highly valued.
