Position Description
The Case Manager position works with the Operations Team and is responsible for the administrative management of bankruptcy cases and related adversary proceedings from opening to final disposition. In addition, case managers assist with courtroom functions, such as calendaring, attending court proceedings, and recording proceedings.
Responsibilities:
- Act as liaison between the clerk’s office, the bar, the public, and the judge to ensure that case information is readily accessible to all stakeholders.
- Assist attorneys and the public by telephone and in person providing information regarding case status, archive information, and CM/ECF instruction.
- Manage bankruptcy cases and related adversary proceedings from opening to closing, utilizing applicable automated systems. Review the accuracy, timeliness, and quality of data entered into the case record. Make corrections, as necessary, to comply with local and federal rules.
- Review all electronic filings made by outside users for quality control to ensure that correct documents are filed, required filing fees paid, correct docket entries are used, and take corrective action as needed.
- Assist in the accurate statistical reporting requirements of the Administrative Office. Review the quality of electronically filed documents, ensuring that all orders and automated entries are appropriately and accurately docketed, and make summary entries on the docket of all documents and proceedings.
- Schedule and notice hearing dates. Advise courtroom deputy of hearings set and potential conflicts.
- Provide accurate noticing as required by law, including proper distribution through the Bankruptcy Noticing Center.
- Audit cases for closing by checking deadlines and ensure all necessary documents are docketed. Review final reports, final accounts, and certifications from the trustee. Tabulate fees as necessary.
- Prepare standardized form orders and judgments for signature. Prepare and transmit appeals to other court units.
- Manage and organize exhibits used in court proceedings, including setting up and troubleshooting electronic evidence presentation systems. Attend court sessions and conferences. Assist with the orderly flow of proceedings; including, but not limited to, setting up the courtroom, assuring presence of all necessary participants, and managing exhibits. Take notes of proceedings, rulings, notices, and prepare minute entries electronically.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Ability to effectively interface with all levels of court employees, attorneys, and the public, including the ability to communicate effectively and respectfully both orally and in writing.
- At least two years of full-time work experience and a consistent record of high-quality job performance with a reliable attendance record.
- Ability to organize work and manage multiple tasks simultaneously while ensuring compliance with applicable rules and procedures, including deadlines.
- Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office 365 applications and Adobe Acrobat.
Desired Qualifications:
- A college degree from an accredited educational institution. Appropriate education above the high school level may be considered at the discretion of the Clerk of Court.
- Experience providing case management support either as a case manager, courtroom deputy, or case administrator to a judge, or as a paralegal or administrative assistant to an attorney.
- Experience with the federal court’s electronic filing system (CM/ECF) and/or learning new IT applications.
- The ideal candidate will possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills; demonstrate effective organizational and problem-solving skills; possess a collaborative work attitude; maintain a professional demeanor; and consistently demonstrate sound judgment.
