| Overview of the Position | U.S. District Judge Jamal Whitehead of the Western District of Washington seeks a law clerk to begin June 30, 2027, for an 18-month term. The term may be extended if both the judge and the clerk agree. The position is based at the Seattle courthouse. The position will remain open until filled, but priority will be given to applications received by Oct. 30, 2026. Law clerks work with the judge on civil and criminal cases filed in the District. Law clerks conduct research, draft opinions, orders, and memorandums, and work on various long-term projects. Law clerks also assist with courtroom proceedings, general administrative duties, and running chambers day-to-day. Applicants must be graduates of an accredited law school and must have at least two years of prior litigation experience. Applicants must possess superior research and writing skills, quick analytical ability, strong interpersonal and time management skills, and the ability to work well independently and as part of a team. Applicants must have a high regard for confidentiality and a demonstrated commitment to an inclusive work environment. Applicants must also be able to function in a highly demanding environment and in the highest ethical manner. Applicants with a prior clerkship are preferred.
