The Generalist Clerk performs a variety of duties, including receiving, reviewing, and filing documents and maintaining court files in compliance with federal and local rules and procedures. The incumbent is the initial contact of the Clerk's Office with the general public, litigants, and the Bar, and as such, collects court fees, provides procedural information, and performs customer service and cashier duties. Position Description
Responsibilities of this position may include but are not limited to the following:
- Receives and opens new cases, files court-related documents, provides copies of documents to the public, and processes archive requests.
- Responds to telephone inquiries, attends the intake counter, and provides customer service.
- Serves as cashier, receiving money and writing receipts, closing out the cash register, and balancing daily cash receipts.
- Maintains the official case record from opening to final disposition, and is responsible for making summary entries of documents and proceedings in the CM/ECF system.
- Assists in case management by ensuring that all automated entries are appropriately linked. Prepares and transmits notices and orders to appropriate parties. Performs quality assurance on cases filed electronically.
- Scans and performs quality control on court documents.
- Assists with mail pick-up and delivery, processing and distributing incoming mail, UPS, and FedEx shipments.
- Processes outgoing postage and UPS shipments.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications: Candidates must have a high school diploma or equivalent and one year of specialized experience.
Candidates must also demonstrate:

- A demonstrated ability to think through, analyze, and interpret written communications

Specialized Experience
Progressively responsible clerical or administrative experience requiring the regular and recurring application of clerical procedures that demonstrate the ability to apply a body of rules, regulations, directives, or laws and involve the routine use of specialized terminology and automated software and equipment for word processing, data entry or report generation. Such experience is commonly encountered in law firms, legal counsel offices, banking and credit firms, educational institutions, social service organizations, insurance companies, real estate and title offices, and corporate headquarters or human resources/payroll operations.
