| Overview of the Position | The Court has nominated Ila C. Deiss to fill a U.S. Magistrate Judge position in our Redding, California courthouse. Judge Nominee Deiss’s appointment is subject to her successful completion of a background investigation. If successful, the Court anticipates she will enter on duty on or shortly after Sept. 3, 2026. Judge Nominee Deiss is seeking applicants for a term law clerk position. The availability of the position is subject to her successful appointment. The duties and responsibilities of the position will include conducting extensive research and writing on a wide range of matters arising in federal litigation, with an emphasis on prisoner civil rights cases, habeas corpus petitions, and Social Security appeals. Applicants will assist Judge Nominee Deiss with her caseload and preparing for case-related hearings, conferences, and trials. Judge Nominee Deiss will consider an applicant’s preference for either a one- or two-year term of appointment. The preference should be stated in the applicant’s cover letter. |
