Position Description

This vacancy is for a Court Law Clerk position in the Fort Myers, Jacksonville, Ocala, Orlando, or Tampa Division. The court prefers applicants who can work in person at a courthouse in any division; however, it will consider applicants who live outside the district and must work remotely.

The Court Law Clerk researches legal issues, writes extensively, attends and assists with court proceedings, and acts as an advisor, making recommendations based on the law. The caseload in the Middle District of Florida is heavy, and the types of cases presented are varied and often involve novel and complex legal issues. Although the nature of the job is serious, the work environment is collegial. There is regular interaction with the judges, law clerks, and other staff concerning legal and court-related issues.

Qualifications

To qualify for the position, one must be a law school graduate at the time of appointment and possess excellent research and writing skills. Preference will be given to applicants with relevant prior work experience, particularly those who have served as a judicial law clerk.

Starting salary commensurate with work experience and prior pay history. Salary may be higher with previous experience as a law clerk to a federal judge. Applicants must be U.S. citizens or eligible to work in the United States and are subject to a background check. Employees are required to use the Electronic Fund Transfer (EFT) for payroll deposit.
